The Crowning of Burswood.

A new era in Perth Entertainment & Dining, with the $750 million refurbishment project lead by Crown boss James Packer, is now complete.
The iconic Burswood Entertainment Complex has had a well needed upgrade and expansion of the sites, accommodation and entertainment facilities, with the aim to take advantage of the growing international tourism market making its way to Perth.

The start of September saw the official name change to Crown and a glitzy launch of a New Las Vegas/Miami Style pool deck, Liquid.
The new development has brought a number of high profile restaurants to Perth with the opening of Robert De Niro's Japanese eatery Nobu earlier in the year.
September saw the opening of Chef Guillaume Brahimi's French bistro, Bistro Guillaume and also creating a buzz is The Merrywell by Chefs Sammy DeMarco and Grant MacPherson, who have pioneered their culinary skills in New York and Las Vegas, bringing with them their ultimate dining experience, Dude food.

The main Casino arena now boasts a number of new bars, cafes and lounges to keep the entertainment happening through all hours of the day and night.

A new 500 room, six-star hotel -Crown Towers is set to start construction in early 2013  with it due to be completed in 2015, the development will be built on land newly acquired as well as a section of the Crown Golf Course.
Before the construction starts the Crown Theatre will play host to Barry Humphries' Eat Pray Laugh tour in January 2013.

No new upgrades to Perth’s largest and most famous concert venue The Dome have been announced.
The soon to be completed Perth Arena will play host to International Superstars Elton John, George Michael and J.Lo when it opens its doors in November.

Chevron's 15th Discovery in Australia, with more Gas found off Barrow Island.

US Company, Chevron claims it has made its 15th Discovery in Australia since mid 2009 with the discovery of more gas off the coast of Western Australia.

Drilling in the Carnarvon Basin by their Australian subsidiary has confirmed around 39 metres of net gas pay through its Satyr-2 exploration discovery well.

The well that was drilled to a total depth of 3796m is located about 120km from Barrow Island in the WA-374-P permit area. This is the location in which Chevron are currently constructing its $43 billion Gorgon liquefied natural gas project.

Chevron Asia Pacific exploration and production president Melody Meyer said the exploration success in the Carnarvon Basin “could help underpin expansion opportunities” at its LNG projects in Australia.

Another project Chevron is developing is the $29 billion Wheatstone LNG project, near Onslow.
Construction of Gorgon is due to be completed by the end of 2014, they remain confident with the set date, although they have announced in July they will undertake a detailed review of the costs and timing of the project.

It is expected through the use of three LNG trains Chevron will have the initial capacity of 15.6 million tonnes each year. Chevron is also in the process of studies to add a fourth train with the possibility of a fifth train for the Project.

Fiona Stanley Hospital due to open in 2014 will become the new centre for cardiothoracic surgery services.

Fiona Stanley Hospital will become the south metropolitan centre for cardiothoracic surgery comprising the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Service; Advanced Lung Disease Service; Pulmonary Hypertension Program; and WA Lung Transplant Unit,” Dr Hames

National and international evidence has proven better clinical outcomes as well as better patients care would be achieved for high-risk patients when complex services are delivered at one tertiary hospital.

To achieve these results cardiothoracic surgery & services such as advanced heart and lung failure would be relocated to this single specialized site with all the facilities specifically designed for the benefit of the patients and the community.

Health Minister Kim Hames said “the WA Government made the decision after extensive discussions with key clinicians from across the South Metropolitan Health Service”

Royal Perth Hospital would remain as the State’s Major adult trauma centre. Royal Perth is nationally renowned for trauma care with its fully accredited and purpose built services among the best.

Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital will continue to service the Perth Northern suburbs with cardiothoracic surgery and metropolitan trauma services. There is also potential for some cardiothoracic services to be contracted to Joondalup Health Campus.
